Mango's register

Mango runs a register of accountants and finance professionals who have been assessed for their suitability for working with relief and development organisations. Currently the register has over 420 members. Members have varied backgrounds and are based in different countries around the world.

Most of Mango's register members have a long term relationship with us. Members come back to us for consecutive assignments.  We help manage their next career move and they find Mango's experience makes this much easier for them.

Register recruitment

There are three steps to join Mango’s register:

1. Assess your suitability

The people we place in NGO positions are all members of Mango's register.  Before applying to join our register, please work through the selection criteria for either field based or head office roles.  If you are able to tick all of the boxes, please proceed to step two (please note that the selection criteria are a guide and will not guarantee acceptance on to our register).

Please also be aware that if you do not already have NGO finance experience, you may need to work for a modest salary or even on an expenses only basis for your initial NGO assignment.

2. Apply to join the register

You need to complete a register application form using our competency framework, and submit a CV in Mango's standard format.  (See below for the links).

3. Attend an interview

We will review your application form and CV and, if appropriate, invite you for an interview. Most of our interviews take place in Oxford, UK, although occasionally we are able to interview candidates elsewhere around the world. As a small charity, we are not able to pay travel expenses to attend interviews.

The purpose of the interview is to assess your suitability for working in finance roles with the NGOs we work with.  This is a formal, structured interview and is a competitive process.  We explore your motivation and understanding od the relief and development sector, as well as your interpersonal skills and technical competenceis.  We find that thise people that take some time to prepare for the interview have the greatest chance of being selected.  In order to help you prepare, you might like to  look at the training courses that we offer or the read the section of our website called what NGO's do

If the interview is successful, we will invite you to join the register, subject to obtaining satisfactory references.

If you are not invited to attend an interview, or if you are not accepted on to the register after the interview, you will be given guidance as to how you could improve your skills or gain additional experience in order to strengthen your application.  It is not uncommon for initially unsuccessful applicants to undertake further training or gain broader experience before reapplying more successfully to join Mango's register.
